Queens, New York -Entering into its 3^rdyear, the Success in the Arts Seminar (SITA) provides insight and intros into the entertainment industry by established professional entertainers.  A grass-root organization built by the love of theater and acting of SITAfounder, playwright and teacher, Dara Bragg wanted to reach local and talented young artists who may not be able to attend Julliard or take time off work to enroll in classes or just don’t know where to start or who to call.  And that would never stop a New Yorker any way, soSITA brings internationally and locally known industry vets to them...well technically to the The Holiday Inn on 57th Street.

 

SITA brings acclaimed entertainers to lead a series of panels on dance, acting, filmmaking, singing and modeling, business acumen and entrepreneur skills to give a broad overview on how to enjoy longevity in your career and what are the steps to start it. Over the years attendees got the “real” from many of New York’s industry alumni including author and actor, Kim Wayans, actor Julito McCullum (The Wire, Akeelah and the Bee), Kiki Haynes (co-star or Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse) and casting director, Wendy McKenzie (“Notorious B.I.G., Secret Lives of Bees, The Blind Side) who have all shared their valuable knowledge and experience with many of New York’s talented young artists.  This year the seminar will include make up and hair styling for success.

 

SITA has become an integral player in the local performance community and has garnered the support of Assemblyman William Scarborough, District 29, for the last three years in addition to the vendors and sponsors who offer their support.

                    

“The goal has always been to let the talented up and coming entertainers learn first had what to expect, how to navigate and who to know in the industry to help propel their careers forward and what they won’t learn in a classroom”, says  Bragg, “everyone gets an opportunity to talk one on one, exchange contact information and promote their projects with each other, building their own community of supporters as well.

 

This year’s seminar continues to offer attendees the opportunity to take their career to the next step through focused panels, workshops and hands on exercises. Leading this year’s seminar is Dawnyelle Butler, Choreographer, Moderator, CEO of The Dawn Productions with guest panelists, Linda Jones Prince - Gospel recording artist & vocal coach; Kel Spencer, recording artists, songwriter for Will Smith, Nick Cannon and actor; John Pollatta, acting coach & owner John Pollatta Studios, Fulton Hodges, director, producer, playwright and Aduelco Award Winner; William Michael Reid, fashion publicist & model management; Jermaine Vanderhorst, filmmaker, & animator; Jeannie Ferguson, production manager, model & designer; Poppa T- executive producer of JCT Magazine and Radio Station; Ciara Smith, owner of Hairtatique Mobile Salon System and  Todd Wharton, CEO & Founder of Local Talent Connect.

LL Cool J and N.W.A. Among the Nominees for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Hip-hop icons LL Cool J and N.W.A. are among the list of artists nominated to be inducted into the 2014 class of the Rock and Roll of Fame.

The hall of fame announced Wednesday (Oct. 16) its annual list of nominees, among them Chic, Hall and Oats, Peter Gabriel, Nirvana, KISS and many others.

This is the second time LL Cool J and N.W.A. have been nominated for inclusion into the Rock Hall after being denied last year.

If they do get selected, they will follow behind previous Rock Hall inductees Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five,Run-DMC, Beastie Boys and Public Enemy.

Elsewhere, this is Chic’s eighth time to be up for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 2003, which is ridiculous in our humble opinion.

Hopefully, the iconic disco group will get its just due now that guitarist Nile Rodgers is garnering some attention for his collaboration with Daft Punk on ‘Get Lucky.’

The 29th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held in New York in April 2014 with the show airing on HBO in May.

Fans can cast their vote on who should be inducted via the Rock Hall’s website. The voting process runs from Oct. 16 through Dec. 10. The top five artists selected by the public will be chosen to be enshrined in 2014.

Not to sway any votes here, but let’s get LL Cool J and N.W.A. into the Rock Hall. Their induction is long over due.

A Tale Of Two 20s: Why Miley Cyrus And Ariana Grande Need Each Other

The roaring twenties has been blog worthy fodder for ThoughtCatalog articles, advice columns and BuzzFeed lists. It's that pivotal era on the cusp of real-world responsibility but still cemented in Y.O.L.O. wildness. Yet in chart-topping pop tarts Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus, we see two identities that show just how varied life at 20 can be.

The ponytail-rocking Ariana grabbed the Billboard No. 1 spot this summer with her debut album Yours Truly, which was squeaky clean on the surface but showed that the pint-sized singer had more soul and spunk beneath her dimple-cheeked smirks. And this week, Miley and her cropped blonde locks will take over the Billboard charts at the same position with her fourth album Bangerz, which remains a toss up between critics and overzealous fans.

Each album tracks the journey through 20 in its own special way: It’s the age where purpose, love life and meaning begin spiraling into perspective.

Bangerz and Yours Truly both open with vulnerable love ballads. Ariana’s smooth "Honeymoon Avenue" gives light to a burned-out fling, while Miley’s "Adore You" is her last testament to love as she prepares to burn rubber on the bad-girl road.

Miley’s spastic new image has been controversial (and bad-girl Britney-esque), but there’s a balance of carelessness and bitterness on the Pharrell-produced "#GETITRIGHT," "Drive" and the woe-is-me track "Someone Else." Meanwhile, Ariana proves to be a ride-or-die chick on "Tattooed Heart" and "Baby I” but her approach to the image isn’t by accident—we’ve seen this with Christina Aguilera pre-"Dirrty" days.

Love and hip-hop plays an important role in both journeys. Ariana samples Lil Kim’s “Crush On You” ("Right There") and the piano medley from Big Pun’s "Still Not A Player" ("The Way") with Big Sean and Mac Miller, while Miley alludes to memories of the turn up and emulates Southern trap with assistance from Mike WiLL Made It, Future and Ludacris (on the bonus cut, "Hands in the Air").

Yet the barely-legal experience isn’t just about love and heartbreak; there’s always time to party. While both singers display their killer pipes, we see that Ariana’s sweet personality and charm will keep her a humble gem while Miley is milking the badass image for all its worth.

In other words, they're feeding fans exactly what they want.

Say what you want about Miley, but you find yourself playing turn-up tracks like "Love Money Party" and "Do My Thang" while squeezing into your freakum dress. After a few spins, her story of love lost may grow on a healing heart. After all, there’s plenty of this going on during cuffing season.

These new images of pre-legal pop both represent a dichotomy that recalls Britney and Christina. Fans have craved the essence of teen pop for years, with Disney stars like Vanessa Hudgens and Jonas Brothers briefly taking the crown and currently the 20-somethings that make up One Direction causing standemonium wherever they go. Miley’s fans are getting a rebellious hurt soul, while Ariana’s are enjoying her sweet ballads.
